Greetings every one and happy holidays.
As some of you might know I live in Northen europe and in my country we celebrate Christmas on the 24th.
On this day most family meet for a great feast and after dinner we chain-dance around the tree while singing carols. Then we give each other presents.
In Denmark it's all about the food in the holidays.
Our food is different from other countries. We eat roasted duck or Flæskesteg (roasted pork with skin turned into crispy cracklings) gammelroj.dk/wp-content/upload… with boiled potatoes, caramel covered potatoes squashforbi.dk/wp-content/uplo…, pickled red cabbage and sauce.
For dessert we eat a special cold rice pudding mixed with chopped almonds and hot cherry sauce. s1060.photobucket.com/user/cut… One whole almond is put into the pudding and who ever gets it gets a present. This present is called the almond present.
On the 25th we meet up again or with other part part of the family that we weren't with on the 24th. We then eat lunch together with snaps, warm liverpâté, ryebread, pickled herrings, fried breaded fish fillet, left overs and other goodies.
Primarily I spend the Christmas with my in-laws and pick another date to spend with my mother and the siblings/nieces/nephew and other family members that can make it on that day. I haven't celebrated Christmas with my dad since I was 16 when my parents were still married. Wauw... that's almost 20 years ago...
So this is my Christmas traditions... What are yours?
